Give Your Fireplace a Makeover!

As the leaves start to change and the cool weather sweeps in, so begins fireplace season in South Carolina! Whether you have a gas or wood burning fireplace, one thing is for sure, family and friends gather around it to enjoy the ambiance and warmth that it brings. Most homes with a fireplace in their entertaining rooms often make the fireplace a focus of the space. In saying that, have you ever thought your fireplace needed to be updated??

Taking on a new project yourself can be both exciting and overwhelming. You may think it’s too complicated, or there simply isn’t time for remodel, or that it is way too costly! However, there are tons of budget friendly ideas that may only take a few hours to achieve. When considering an update on your fireplace, you want to first decide what style you are trying to achieve and your budget will be. Once you’ve determined style and budget you must decide what needs to be updated and what can remain the same. Updating the exterior (brick, tile, etc.), the fireplace insert or doors, the mantle, or simply adding new artwork and accessories can give the fireplace a new updated look.

The cost of re-tiling your fireplace or adding stacked stone could be over budget, but some of the options for renovating your fireplace are simple and very cost effective. If you have a brick fireplace think about painting the brick or doing a white wash. Check out this fireplace before and after! Total cost to update the look was only  $25 and it is really easy to do it yourself! The only supplies you need to accomish this white wash look is a paint brush, painters tape to protect the trim and mantel, a bowl for mixing paint and water and of course the white flat interior paint.

 If you are redoing your mantle check out inexpensive pre-made options at local businesses or look up free design templates online and do it yourself. If you decide to redo your fireplace insert check out the different fire resistant paint colors at your local hardware store and simply paint it yourself. No matter what you decide to do to your fireplace make sure you take time to soak in the rewards of a job well done.
